About Us
Who we are
AQUATA develops and manufactures professional protective suits for people who work where conditions are unforgiving — at sea, in floodwater, offshore, underwater and on operations.
Our range covers maritime survival suits, rescue suits, offshore overalls, drysuits and custom-developed protective solutions for commercial, public-sector and defence users.
Nearly fifty years of protective clothing
AQUATA was founded in Berlin in 1977 as a development and production company for protective clothing. In the early years we produced diving and surf suits for the consumer market, and together with international partners we developed special surfboards and laid the foundations of our neoprene production in cooperation with a Japanese partner.
In 1988 the company was restructured and clothing production was transferred to our own manufacturing facility. Technical developments moved AQUATA into professional protective clothing, and within a few years we had become one of the leading manufacturers of immersion suits for the shipping industry. More than 200,000 neoprene suits have since been produced and are in service on vessels worldwide.
Since 2021 we have also produced textile immersion suits, which now form an important part of our portfolio.
Production in our own hands
We manufacture our suits ourselves. That is a deliberate choice, and it is what allows us to control the details that decide whether a suit performs years from now: material selection, seam construction, seals, valves and closures.
Seams on our neoprene suits are taped by hand. It is slower than the alternatives, and it is the single biggest reason our suits stay dry over a long service life. The same principle applies across the range — every critical production step is checked rather than assumed.
Certified where it counts
Our survival suits, offshore overalls and rescue suits are approved to MED and SOLAS, and our polar range is built to Polar Code requirements. Certification is documented per product and per version, not claimed across a catalogue.
Built around the application
No two operations are the same. A rescue crew working in floodwater needs something different from a commercial diver, an offshore technician or a ship’s crew in cold water.
We therefore develop around the application — protection level, mobility, donning time, compatibility with other equipment, serviceability. Where a standard product does not fit, we develop one that does. Custom solutions for authorities, maritime organisations and industrial users are a regular part of our work, not an exception.
Service that outlasts the sale
A protective suit is equipment, not a purchase. Ours are supported by a worldwide network of trained service stations for inspection, pressure testing, maintenance and repair, so a suit can stay in service for as long as it performs.
